UX vs. UI - Join the debate and WIN an Apple Watch!

It's that time again for another installment of the long lived debate "UX vs UI - what's the difference?!" but this time with a twist (and I don't mean me!). I must have read over 50 blogs recently on the subject and have had conversations with many clients about the differences and what exactly they need when recruiting for a UX/UI role.

I promise this is not going to be another one of those blogs, but to set the scene I think I need to give the simplest description of the two:

  • UX is User Experience and is primarily concerned with how the product feels.
  • UI is User Interface and is primarily concerned with how the product is laid out.

Now we have that out of the way, I did tell you that this was going to be a blog with a twist...

In the 50+ blogs on the subject that I have read, I have found the most entertaining part is often the analogies people use to distinguish between what is UX and what is UI. Quite often I think people write a 500 word blog just to slip their analogy in there for the world to see!

So in homage to some of my favorite UX vs UI analogies, I would like to set the challenge - share with us and the whole community your funniest, most cliché, corniest, wittiest or just down right ridiculous analogy for the UX/UI differential and we will award, neigh Crown, the winner with a brand spanking new Apple Watch, which has arguably had more #UXfails written about it than any product in recent memory – but it’s still a pretty decent piece of kit!

These entries can come in any form you like – metaphor, meme, infographic or whatever you like to display your creativeness!

To get the ball rolling, I would like to share with you a couple of my personal favourites:

Now it’s your turn, just add your entry as a comment below and you could be the proud owner of an Apple Watch… GO!
